Cogat`s Measures to Accommodate the Celebration of Eid al-Adha, 2012

The Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha marks the day in which, according to the Muslim tradition, Abraham bound Ishmael to the Kaaba Stone. The holiday begins with the conclusion of the Hajj, a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, and is celebrated for four days (on this year it will be celebrated from the 26th to the 29th of October). Cogat' with the Civil Administration, has endeavored to make the celebration of this holiday as easy and enjoyable as possible. The most important measures, which have been implemented in full coordination with the Palestinian Authority, involve the facilitation of movement throughout, into, and out of Judea and Samaria, including traffic from Jordan into Judea and Samaria through the Allenby Bridge.

Some of the easing measures include:
 
1) Increasing the number of merchants in all of the districts in Judea and Samaria.
2) Providing 200 exit permits for travel abroad through Ben-Gurion Airport.
3) Providing permits to the Palestinian Authority for visitors from Jordan to Judea and Samaria.
4) Granting permits for family visits without limits on age or “smart card”, including night stays for all four days of the festival.
5) Opening of crossings: Gilboa, basil and a gate 300 which in the Jenin area until midnight.
6) Opening Al-Jib checkpoint for Israeli Arabs during the holiday from 5pm-10pm to travel between Israel and Judea and Samaria.

In addition to these exemptions, over 50 thousand Israel permits were given this year for Sunday and Monday. Also, there is an addition of a thousand merchants, 9 outline plans, additional quota of two thousand workers schoolers and over 200 licenses to visit in Israel.


Last year, more than 25,000 persons moved through the checkpoints. This year, there is also expected to be heavy movement for the benefit of family visits.
