Cargo of Gaza-bound ship Estelle transferred to the Gaza Strip

On October 22nd, 2012, the Gaza DCL coordinated the delivery of the cargo brought on board the "Estelle" ship to the Gaza Strip, under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority and UNRRA.
Date: 25.10.12

The DCL officers at the Erez crossing, with the assistance of the Ministry of Defense, began scanning and unloading the cargo on board, once the ship arrived at the Port of Ashdod on Saturday evening, however, since no organization willing to assume the ownership of and responsibility for the cargo, it was decided to transfer the cargo to the warehouses of the Gaza DCL.

The delivery of the cargo became possible following coordination talks that took place between the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Eitan Dangot, and senior officials from the Palestinian Authority, in which it has been agreed that the Palestinian Authority, in coordination with UNRRA, shall use the cement brought on board the ship, in order to continue the development of the Kerem Shalom Crossing on the Palestinian side. The remaining cargo shall be transferred to UNRRA.

All the cargo has been delivered by 3 trucks, comprising less than 1% of the average daily cargo delivered on a daily basis through the Kerem Shalom Crossing.
