In Judea and Samaria, contiguous and on-going security coordination exists between Israeli security forces (including the IDF and the Israel Police) and the Palestinian security mechanisms. This security coordination is tremendously important for improving the security situation in Judea and Samaria, while maintaining public order and preventing conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians.
The liaison between Israeli security forces and the Palestinian security mechanisms is executed through a security coordination unit in coordination of government activities in the territories. Within this framework, a number of joint meetings and study programs are conducted and there is an on-going process to enhance and improve the security coordination.
Following the hostile takeover of the Gaza Strip by the Hamas in June 2007, all security coordination versus the Gaza Strip has ceased.
